Spotlight on FAMErs!


* Grandmaster athlete, Gerry Bossy has come a long way since his surgery that had him wheelchair bound not too long ago.  Now with one leg longer than the other, Gerry has proven to be an inspiration to many as he stayed focus on his goal to qualify for the FAME World Championships.  This past weekend he took to the stage at the Ian Walling FAME Centrals where he won his PRO Card making him eligible to compete not only at the show but alongside the best of the best in the Master Pro Class!

* FAME Pro Wendy Carvalho-Ashby and husband (also a FAMEr) Kevin Ashby were recently contacted by CITY TV for a full television feature!  CITY TV will be following the duo, dubbed as Calgary's Fittest Couple, in their daily lives and at the Derrick Brown's FAME Prairies.  This will be a five segment feature aired on Thursday April 24 which will also include Derrick Brown himself and two lucky amateur athletes who are competing at the FAME Prairies that weekend.    Looking forward to watching!!  Congratulations!   


Can't get enough of these guys known for their infectious laugh? Between both Wendy and Kevin, they will also be competing at the Derrick Brown FAME Prairies in just about every category, including the Pairs.   Watch for them! :-)





* Obi Obadike one of FAME’s newest pros just shot with Robert Reiff this past weekend and will be featured in the next two issues of Maximum Fitness magazine (including an Ab Special) before he lands the COVER this summer!   Congratulations, Obi and welcome to the Pro Stage!  See you at the FAME World Championships!

  1. *FAME Pro Diana Chaloux has been busy recording commercials including for ESPN and Max Muscle.  She has a hilarious line at the end where she says that you can meet her in persona and maybe even touch her ‘abs’... They say ‘what?!!?’ and she replies “i said ABS”! Lol.   Take a listen!   (to the right - and click this link for ESPN)



* FAME Model and Talent Agency is happy to congratulate its client, Andrew Judson on his upcoming role in the “Joon’s Henhouse”, a Mae West theatrical piece. Andrew plays a supporting role and under the tutelage of Las Vegas Performer Maria Sant’Angelo, has had the chance to learn how to professionally dance and sing, two things that he has never done before! Andrew has said that “this is a lot of fun, and although I did a bit of acting when I was younger this is the first time it has been on a professional level” The first show is slated for Sunday May 11, at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto, Canada. Congratulations Andrew!

  1. *Retired Navy Captain and Super Grandmasters Bodybuilder Scott 'Old Navy" Hults is on a role!  It all started with his feature in the New York Times which then was picked up by CBS National News this past Sunday morning (of which we are anxiously awaiting the footage).  Then his local station (WIAT - TV CBS 42 in Birmingham, Alabama) caught wind of this amazing senior and featured him later that same day!   Check it out here (visit the screen on the right side).

  2. *Dave Avery is the trainer from Cobourg who has a keen eye for scouting new talent.  This year Team David Avery consisted of 10 athletes who took to the stage at the Ian Walling FAME Centrals this past weekend. Two of the members, Jim Douglas and Kimberly Johnston were featured in the newspaper.  Jim got started in this industry because he was told by his doctor that he needed to lose weight so having his eye on a competition helped keep him on track.   Kim was always athletic and since  bodybuilding is a new challenge that does not require a past history, this was a great new goal for her.   Click here to see the Results of the show.

The first few shows of the 2008 FAME World Tour - season 1 have been so much fun!   Four down and only fourteen left to go! LOL!


So you still have the opportunity to qualify to compete  in the final show in Season 1, the  FAME World Championships (June 13 -15, Toronto).  The overall winners of the Advanced Division in any of the Regional Shows will win PRO Status making them eligible to compete in the prestigious Pro Class.

FAME Exciting News

FAME & Bodybuilding.com:  

We are very excited to announce that we have strengthened our relationship with the fabulous supersite, Bodybuilding.com.   Already several of our athletes are featured in the amateur profile pages and some of our pros have full videos on their site which are very informative and a lot of fun.   Check out Jamie Eason //  Ava Cowan // Diana Chaloux.  


Plus, this past weekend, Mindy Blackstien (FAME Co-President) and Lyzabeth Lopez (FAME Endorsed Athlete) were flown down to Bodybuilding.com for a full hour live interactive chat.   “We had sooo much fun” they reported.   “Although we were nervous at first and had a really funny moment of confusion we would love for you guys to check it out”.   It actually explains a lot of things about FAME that you may not yet know as new things are continually being added and updated.   Check this link on Bodybuilding.com and please submit a comment!



Reality TV Show:

During the Ian Walling FAME Centrals we had a production crew take over one of the backstage rooms in order to shoot a reality show! This production company is the brains behind well known shows such as Canada’s Worst Driver and Newlywed Nearly Dead. Unfortunately because the show is currently in production and is thus in ‘stealth mode’ we are not at liberty to release any further information. However, even with the clandestine nature of the production we can tell you that several of our models and athletes were involved in the program.  Anyone who is interested in being represented by FAME’s in-house modeling and talent agency should visit us at www.FAMEModelandTalent.com and create a profile.



FAME  & WNSO Pros Are Now Judges!


Implemented by the World Natural Sports Organization (WNSO) as a way to ensure the highest integrity is maintained and that athletes are given the best treatment and appreciation by their panel, Pro athletes are now being offered to occupy a seat at the judges table at almost every event. Razor Renaldo Gairy's first experience this past weekend was one he viewed as "a privilege.  It is such an incredible learning experience."   Andrew Judson reports "It's amazing to see how thorough and structured the judging is" and Christen Kwan stated "it is really amazing seeing it from this perspective. I learned so much being on the other side of the judges table".   


Other Pro athletes who can now call themselves a WNSO Judge include,  Fatima Leite Kusch,  Heidi Richards, Karen Reidel-Gallagher, Kendall Wood, Koya Webb, Mike Kocsis, Ralph Yates, Kris Gethin, Edie Shephard-Paluniak and Sherilee Newton.    Furthermore both Ian Walling, MIke Kocsis and Lyzabeth Lopez have also acted in the capacity of Head Judge which is altogether a whole new experience!    Next up, Trevor Ryan and Maci Zimmerman move up the rungs as a test and comment judge at FAME East and FAME Prairies.

FAME World Tour - Event News

ALL REGIONAL EVENTS

All regional events give athletes the opportunity to qualify to compete at the FAME World Championships (Toronto, June 13-15).  Plus for Advanced Status athletes, these shows are PRO Qualifiers meaning that you can win your PRO Status to compete in the prestigious PRO Class!   Each event has representatives from FAME Model and Talent who are scouting to award contracts with the agency.  As well, FAME Magazine staff are always on hand to cover the show and feature any good story angles and photos.




FAME East: (April 19 - QC).  You guys are all in for a treat!  FAME Pros Larry Vinette, Julie Marsland, Sylvia Tremblay, Benoit Myre and Trevor Ryan (the guy on the poster!) are all going to be in attendance both onstage for the audience and offstage for the athletes!  Athletes, here is your time to talk to these icons and even spend time with them during Media Day!   (For those who want a private shoot with urbanstylz there are still a few spots left.. -Click here.).  Audience, get ready...  The fantastic and reigning FAME World PRO Champion Larry Vinette is going to tear up the stage with his self choreographed and wildly exciting routine.   Larry has always been one of the most fantastic posers ever and now he's about to show FAME East just what he's made of.   Check him out and enjoy the rest of the action that FAME East athletes are about to bring to the stage/  Tickets available online and at the door!   ///   Athletes if you want to compete, register here. 



Derrick Brown FAME Prairies:  (April 26 - AB) This show is going to be HUGE!  Already nearing it’s cap with close to 160 athletes, we have decided to have Judging start at 8:00AM to ensure the judges have the opportunity to properly assess all the athletes.  Tickets are going very quick.  There are less than 20% of the seats still available.  Order yours today!  Athletes you can still register (for now!).



FAME European Championships: (April 27 - UK)  This show takes place at the huge annual Seni Show which is every fitness fanatic’s dream.  Reigning Champion, FAME Pro Audrey Kaipio will be a special guest and together with FAME Ambassador Rob Riches the two of them will lead the show!  It’s going to be a supercharged event with great exposure, so athletes register now!  More details.




Diana Chaloux FAME South Central Championships & Health Expo:  (May 3, TX)  This show is only three weeks away! If you have not registered for the show yet but are planning to compete please sign up by April 17th at midnight if you would like your picture and bio to be included in the show program. This show includes all categories, Swimsuit Model, Fitness Model, Muscle Model, Fitness, Figure, Fittest Duo and Bodybuilding.  Tickets are available at the door.  More details.

FAME CAMPS:
Lyzabeth’s FAME Camp was postponed (she thought it would be more beneficial for everyone if her plane got cancelled 3 times so that she’d be in the US during her Canadian event.... LOL).  The good news is that you now  have extra time to register.  Her camp will now be held on Sunday April 20 in Toronto.  This is a great place for new athletes to qualify for her show, the Lyzabeth Lopez FAME Classic on May 10.  


There is a FAME Camp this weekend in Texas lead by Diana Chaloux and David Gandell for all athletes looking to gain their level 1 status and compete in the Diana Chaloux FAME South Central Championships on May 3


April 26 in Pompano Beach is the date for Ava Cowan’s FAME Camp.  Starting at 1:15PM at Gold’s Gym,you get to learn the inside scoop from one of FAME’s most recent Pros!


A new Camp has been added to the Manitoba area lead by Ainsley McSorley - perfect for models training towards her show on May 24


Just remember all FAME Camps provide you with extremely valuable insight directly from the Pros - and will satisfy your Level 1 Requirement so that you can compete in any of the Regional shows.   FAME Camp Details //  Schedule


FAME Idol: 

What is this FAME Idol?  It is your chance to audition in front of FAME and WNSO Judges to try to bypass the lower levels of the Tier System.  Great for those who would prefer not to attend a FAME Camp; Seasoned athletes from other organizations who want to come to FAME; and exceptional newcomers who want to see how far they can go.   Each FAME Idol will have a workshop in advance to give you even more opportunity to hit your target!   //   Check FAME Idol schedule - next up, NYC, Barbados, Philippines, Toronto.
