OPEN TO:

Solos, Duos, Groups, Crews

All Ages - No minimum or maximum age.

JUDGING:

Judges look for an original routine that is high energy with lots of transitions. Dancers should concentrate on using the entire stage provided.  Duos and groups must ensure unity while solo acts will need to keep the crowd entertained on their own. All dancers are encouraged, but not required to use a theme of some type. Costumes will be judged, so please place some emphasis on costumes. Props are also highly encouraged but must be approved one month prior to the date of your show.

Creativity/ Originality (30%): Originality can displayed though costume, theme, props, music and/or choreography. Think creatively to set yourself apart from your competition.

Overall Performance (20%): This is an overall look at your routine including how it flowed, how the theme worked with the costumes music and choreography. Was the routine strong from start to finish? Did it finish leaving you wanting more? Was the routine engaging?

Skill Level (20%) This is a look at the degree of difficulty in your movement. This can include anything from jumps, leaps, turns,

acrobatics, or the level of difficulty of the dance movement itself.

Tip: Only include movements that you can do well. Including difficult moves that are completed poorly will effect

your score negatively. Only show the judges what you do well.

Choreography (10%)

This will look specifically at the choreography. Does it flow well? Is it interesting/ engaging? Technically are the movements sharp and preformed well? Do the facial expressions work with the choreography?

Costume/ Theme/ Music (10%)

Do the costumes work with the music and/or theme? Are the costumes well thought out? Is the music professionally cut? Does the music work with the choreography? Was the theme effective?

Use of stage/ Transitions/Audience Interaction (10%)

Was the entire stage used? Was the majority of the routine in the centre of the stage? Were the transitions smooth/ interesting? Was there audience interaction? Did the routine engage the audience?

Demerits:

Anything considered overtly sexual (music/costume or movement) will incur a deduction in points. This is a family event, please edit music for profanity. Unedited music will result in deduction.

PROPS & COSTUMES:

Props and costumes are highly encouraged but are not required. Please ensure that if you choose to use props that you are using them effectively as part of your routine. You are not given a higher score if you have a prop, but having a prop could add to the overall entertainment value of your routine if incorporated well. Prop set up & tear down must not take longer than 20 seconds, as this just delays the show for everyone. All large or awkward props, pyrotechnics etc must be approved one month prior to the show so please contact us. Thanks!

MUSIC:

All music should be in audio format, not data format (eg MP3). Test your music on a regular CD player (NOT a DVD player). Make sure to burn MP3’s on CD recordable (not re-writable or DVD) discs. Music selection and its recording can make or break your routine. Although you are not getting judged on your music itself, if the sound quality is not great (or if there is profanity) it could impact the judge's impression. So please have your music professionally recorded by a proper DJ at a high quality (as it will be played loud).  This will ensure there is no background static or pops, and that transitions between songs are smooth and volume is consistent.  As well, professional recordings allow for special effects, accents, climax building and allows you to sync your poses to the music. If you are burning your CD from your computer, please ensure that it's nothing less than 192 KBPS // 44 KHZ. All CD’s must be CD-R only.

Music must be submitted at the Athlete Meeting.  Always also keep a backup at the event (should it be required) and leave the original at home. Please write your name on all your CDs. If you want your CD back it will be your responsibility to request it from the DJ that night. Otherwise all music will be discarded.

Select music that best shows your personality and allows you to be creative. Avoid lyrics with profanity as you could lose marks - up to 1 point per curse word in any language! So take this seriously.  Music should have good beats &/or rhythm changes that are specific to your routine. To signify the end of your routine it's a good idea to have your music end or fade out.  When athletes leave in the middle of the song it leaves the audience feeling that the routine was not as polished.

If there are any technical difficulties with your music please remember that you are still being judged. Your reaction and how you handle the situation will be noted. Please also note, that any time there is a technical issue, you will be permitted to start your routine over. Just bring this to the attention of the stage manager. If you need the contact information of a reputable DJ please contact us.
