Michael’s Story:
I had the good fortune of living all over the United States when I was growing up. My father was an Air Force Fighter Pilot, and we moved every few years during my grade school years. Moving every few years introduced me to all types of people and places, and taught me the skills necessary to make friends easily. However, despite my outgoing nature I was very self conscious about my appearance during these years. In 10th grade I weighed in at a massive 103 lbs! I was athletic but very small, and in 1985 I turned to weight training to help build my body and my self confidence. My body responded very well to the weights. I gained over 30 lbs during my first year of training, and after just 3 years I decided to enter a local Bodybuilding competition. I loved the experience and I have been hooked on training and competing ever since.
Soon after my first Bodybuilding competition, I also began competing in Powerlifting. I set the record for my weight division at my High school in the Bench Press during my Senior year, and went on to win many Powerlifting competitions over the next 10 years.
During college I began avidly studying nutrition, exercise, and supplement science. I became certified as a trainer and later a Sports Nutritionist, and spent my college years working in gyms and health clubs training clients and reading everything I could find related to exercise science and nutrition theory.
After college I started my own training and nutrition consulting business and began focusing on training natural athletes for physique competition.
In 1999, I met my wife Kendra. Kendra was a classically trained professional dancer. She became interested in transitioning from Dance competition to Fitness competition, and in 2002 I began training her to compete in Fitness. She was a natural and excelled quickly at Fitness, earning professional status within two years of her first competition.
During the late 1990's I had become so busy with focusing on my career that I got away from my own love of competitive bodybuilding. Training my wife, and being around the shows again gave me the bug to get back on stage. In 2003 I resumed my competitive career after more than a decade away from competition!
Kendra and I are both drug free athletes, so in 2005 I began looking for a natural organization where I could compete. I read that FAME was bringing a new Pro Qualifying drug tested show to Oklahoma so I began researching the FAME / WNSO organization and really liked what I saw.
I dedicated myself to my training and entered the FAME Southwest Championships in April 2005. My hard work paid off and I won the Overall Bodybuilding Title and Professional Status in FAME!
Later that year, during my training to make my professional debut at the FAME World Championships in Toronto, I suffered a terrible setback. I tore my left pectoralis major tendon completely in two, and ripped the pectoralis major muscle to shreds. I had surgery 4 days later and spent all of 2006 in rehab and recovery. I was determined not to let this injury spoil my competitive future in bodybuilding. As soon as I was cleared for full training, I began planning my comeback.
After over 18 months of rehab and recovery, and 6 months back in the gym, I finally made my Pro debut at the FAME North American Championships, placing 3rd in the Pro Division.
My placing was not nearly as important as simply stepping back on stage and putting the previous 2 years of difficulty behind me. I was finally back on stage and the sky was the limit!
Over the past 5 years, I have also worked as a consultant and writer for many different Fitness and Bodybuilding web sites and online magazines.
In 2006 I became the Editor In Chief for Muscular Performance and Health Magazine, and also was a contributing author and Editor In Chief of the book Building the Perfect Beast...Naturally.
When the opportunity became available to take on the role as Editor In Chief of the new FAME magazine, I knew it was the job for me. I was thrilled when Mindy and Jeff hired me for the job.
I look forward to the launch of the new FAME magazine as an opportunity to showcase the Health, Fitness, and Style of the FAME athlete. The magazine will feature the Knowledge, Experience, Beauty, and Charisma of the best natural athletes in the world. It will be a place where up and coming athletes can learn the basics of competing, and also learn advanced tips and tricks from the best trainers and Pro athletesin the world. It will also be a place where you will see the fun side of competition and share the lives and activities of the people you see on posters and in the media everyday. Above all, this is YOUR magazine.
It will feature you, the FAME athlete. I look forward to opportunity to bring this exciting new magazine to the newsstands, and to showcase ALL that is great about our FAME lifestyle and the Body-Proud image that we all represent!
New Associate Editor of FAME Magazine - Kris Gethin, FAME Pro - Editor in Chief Bodybuilding.com

“I have seen a lot of changes in the industry as a whole and nobody captures and propels the positive influence of natural health and drug free bodybuilding as does FAME. I am extremely proud to be part of such a company and federation but I am more thrilled to be able to help people in becoming proud of themselves.”
Not only does Kris have extensive knowledge within the bodybuilding industry and journalism, he is also a WNSO Pro Bodybuilder. Representing Australia in the WNSO World Championships in 2006, he placed as runner up in the amateur competition after dieting for only nine weeks.
“I am originally from Wales but I started my bodybuilding career with the ANB in Australia when I moved there in 2000. I felt I had found my family away from home and I was honored to wave their flag after I had moved to the US when Ron Ziemiecki from the ANB asked if I would represent them at the FAME World Championships in Canada. I only had nine weeks of dieting under my belt but was happy with my placing, but not too much with my condition, in 2008 that will all change. Having the fortunate burden of being a WNSO Pro has pushed my training to another level and I plan on showcasing that at the 2008 World titles, I’m going in as a winner, I’m coming out as one as well. I’m just glad that I have been asked to be the Associate Editor of the FAME publication because now I have no time to think about cheating on my diet.”
